Bidding

It's no secret to experienced auction buyers that few things generate a bigger adrenaline rush than the act of becoming involved in spirited bidding. Bidding is the reason why many individuals will travel great distances for the opportunity to purchase a single item at auction that may be more readily available to them from the inventory of a local retail merchant. At auction, buyers set the price for an item with their bids. Not the seller. You only pay what you are willing to bid. It's easy. When the auction begins, the auctioneer will introduce each lot item offered, in numerical order, as listed in the catalogue. Following an item's introduction, the auctioneer will ask for opening bids. Buyers may call out a number, or indicate a bid by the number of fingers they raise. If no bid is forthcoming, the auctioneer will prompt the audience with a suggested bid, until a first bid is proffered. Thereafter, the auctioneer will call for successively higher bids, in even dollar increments, ranging as low as 10%, and as high as 100% of the previous bid.To place a bid at auction, simply raise your bid card until the auctioneer acknowledges you. If nobody tops your bid, the auction hammer comes down, and the item is yours (subject to acceptance of bid by seller for consignment property with reserve price).

Absentee Bids

If you or your designated agent are unable to attend the auction in person, you may place an absentee bid with Manor & Street prior to the actual sale date. At the back of each and every catalog you will find a blank absentee bid form. You may also obtain a form online (see pagelink above), or request forms from Manor & Street by telephone, or fax.To submit an absentee bid, simply indicate on the form the items you wish to bid on, and your maximum bid for each. Sign and return the form to Manor & Street by mail or fax (888/825.5092), up to three (3) days prior to auction. When the lot you are interested in comes up for sale, a Manor & Street auction specialist will execute the bidding on your behalf. Manor & Street will try to purchase the item for as little as possible, never exceeding your limit.Should identical bids be received from different buyers, the first bid received takes precedence. If you become the successful bidder, Manor & Street will make every effort to contact you within twenty-four (24) hours to arrange for payment. A statement of charges (including shipping) will be mailed to you within three (3) working days of the sale.
