 Buying at Auction

Catalogue

As a means of becoming familiar with the items being offered for sale at a particular auction, the auction catalogue is an invaluable reference tool. Each Manor & Street auction catalogue contains informative descriptions of the items being consigned, photographic illustrations of items of particular interest, any estimated price range valuations, the conditions of sale, terms of guarantee, and our prospective buyers digest. Use the catalog to jot down notes on objects of personal interest, for later reference during the sale. Prices realized at auction may also be recorded in the catalogue for comparison buying at future sales.Catalogues for each Manor & Street sale are available online, or for purchase by telephone 3-4 weeks prior to auction. Catalogues may also be purchased in person at each sale location during exhibition and auction hours. Auction Previews

Another excellent way to become familiar with the items being offered at a Manor & Street auction is to attend the auction preview. There at the auction site, all the items to be auctioned are placed on public display for you to examine. Should a particular item you see pique your interest, please don't hesitate to ask one of the preview specialists for assistance in conducting a thorough examination of the condition of the piece. Open the drawers, feel the finish, scrutinize the hallmark, look under the hood. Whatever the item, we encourage you to get to know it well. If you have an interest in a particular item from the catalog, but are unable to personally attend the preview, please call Manor & Street for a comprehensive condition report. Every effort will be made to get you the information you need to make an informed purchase.

Bidder Registration

Once you have familiarized yourself with the items for sale at a particular auction, you will want to register for a bidding number if you are intending to buy. A bid number card is issued by the auction house to each prospective buyer as a means of identifying successful bidders at the conclusion of the sale, during property checkout (see bidder registration pagelink above). Manor & Street requires bidders to provide one form of picture identification, preferably a driver's license, passport, or equivalent when registering for a number. Buyers will also be asked to provide pertinent name, address, telephone, and credit information.
